The combination of peat and sherrt is one that not everyone loves but when the combination is just right, perfection ensures.
The casks used for this stunning Ardbeg 'Darkness' are specially rebuilt 50 litre fresh first fill Sherry casks, providing lots of influence in just a few short months.
The last Ardbeg 'Darkness' was finished in a PX cask but now it's Oloroso's turn!
Nose: Sweet honey and creamy peaty custard develops before delicious chocolate-y goodness from brownies. Slightly medicinal but the buttery, rich brownies balances things out nicely.
Palate: Here is where the 'Darkness' comes in with dark dried fruits and rich sherried oak with Brazul nuts and perfectly integrated with dark oloroso and smoky notes.
Finish: Relatively subdued at first before never ending smoked cheese kicks in. Overall, gorgeous!
