Hailing from Trinidad’s only distillery, this 16 Year Old Rum is the highly anticipated second batch of the Cask Collection No.1 series.
It has been aged for ten years in Bourbon casks before being transferred to French oak barrels (used once for Cognac) for a further six long years.
When whisky distillers talk about “finishing” in different casks you might expect a year or two, but six is a phenomenal undertaking.
Only 15,000 bottles were made available worldwide. Of which only a tiny proportion made it to the UK.
Nose: Elegantly nutty, with macadamia nut notes bringing vanilla elements to the fore. This is paired with white peach and floral citrus.
Palate: Citrus is dialled down here, but it remains fruity with fig and raisin. Still quite nutty, though.
Finish: Satisfyingly drying with lasting dried fruit touches.
