The White Oak distillery is perhaps the least known of Japan’s whisky producers.
The distillery was founded by in 1888 to produce sake, and because of this, has a legitimate claim of being the country’s oldest whisky producer.
The White Oak distillery was born in 1984, when the company moved to their current facilities, and is located in the city of Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture, west of Kobe, and faces the Seto Inland Sea.
This Akashi Single Malt was distilled at the distillery with cask number 1354.
Nose: Honey sweetness, there is no roughness at all as soft oak, apricots, pear, treacle and fresh dough follow. Smooth and balanced.
Palate: More honey and treacle, soft oak, pear, dough, nutmeg and ginger.
Finish: Nicely spicy, yet also creamy, with good length. Some mineral-like qualities and lingering smoke.
