More Info

The Medalla de Oro yields medium to full strength with a cool easy draw from the first puff to the last.

They have a 'softer' blend than the Punch Serie D Oro no.1, which is a more aggressive and stronger cigar altogether.

The Medalla De Oro has delicate, complex and very sweet flavours that will suit both the novice that wants to try a 'big' smoke as well as the more experienced cigar smoker.

The cigars we have smoked so far were all perfectly consistent in blend and had an attractive colorado wrapper.

I smoked the Punch Medalla De Oro Cigar (UK Regional Edition) today now normally I would write down my thoughts and taste note while I'm smoking to give a detailed review of each stick and certainly a cigar of this magnitude should be done correctly after all it was punches first UK regional edition cigar for the British market which commemorate the London 2012 Olympic Games hens the name and beautiful embellished golden foil with EMS 2012 visible all over the foil. Back to what I was saying I enjoyed this cigar so much that I forgot to write down my taste notes so I'm trying doing this review through memory. So I started off by taking the golden foil off of the cigar and slid the to bands up to the top about a inch and half for the shoulder of the cigar on inspection the wrapper was a lovely milk chocolate in colour with a gorgeous oil sheen, there where no cracked or vains I could see, the cap was applied perfectly, but the thing that struck me the most about this cigar was how well packed full of tobacco it was there was not any soft of squidgy spots my first through was a little worried as to how tight the draw would be but I later found this wasn't an issue. The pre light aroma was a mouth watering milk chocolate and slight cedar, once I had cut the cigar I took a pre light draw which to my surprise was perfect only a slight resistance and the notes I could pick out was similar to the aroma a deep earth, chocolate plus a slight cedar there was also a touch of black pepper. After slowly toasting the cigar the room started to film with a wonderful smoke full of flavour. My first initial thoughts was wow! Now I smoke quite a lot of Punch cigars and they usually follow the same key note such as cedar, black paper, earthiness and leather and some times a slight coco or coffee so like every Punch I was expecting this cigar to follow the same traits. Needless to say every draw of the stick coated my pallet with a lovely thick smoke which was unlike any other Punch I had tried. On the draw was a delightful caramel and deep earth which you would think is a bit of an odd combination however the two note coplemented each other very nicely on the retro hail I was picking up hints of coffee and oak, now I don't know how long I was smoking but let's say I was in the second third. The smoke was still nice and cool which delivered a lovely rich coating on the pallet, on the draw was the deep earth and caramel with a slight oak and a touch of black pepper; this was delivered in the form of spice on the retro hail and a pepper oil on the lips just giving a slight zing just to finish I noticed a change in strength I was starting to get a slight head spin but nothing over the top, again not sure on timings so I will just say the final third no big change just gradual notes developing through. So sticking with the deep earthy and a sweet caramel core the oaky note dropped of which was replaced with a raisin that gave the cigar a nice fruity finish to it, there is still a black pepper on the retro hail however I can also taste the coco from the first third coming through again. Once again I could feel the strength rising in the last third I had to grab a spoon full of sugar to counteract the nicotine. So with a lengthy and wide ring gauge and the strength all combined together my total burn time was over two hours which is amazing value of money if you ask me the construction of the stick has been flawless throughout and had a nice razor sharp burn all the way down, so if your looking for a long lasting desert like full-bodied cigars I'd definitely recommend trying this stick before its to late, or putting a box down the rest again. I just wish they made it into a regular production as I loved the Complexity of the stick throughout.
